Berry Fun Letter Sounds
My berry containers were stacking up – I love enjoying summer berries but I always wanted a way to reuse the containers. This activity is super easy to prep and lets your berry containers have another use!
All you will need is one (or two) clean berry containers – I like blueberry or raspberry containers since they are slimmer for storage – and my Berry Fun product (on my TPT store) to transform the containers into a game.
To make this activity, print the pages and gather your supplies. Cut out the pieces. Laminate if you wish!
I included a few different sizes of the cover so that you can find one that fits your berry containers best. Feel free to trim them down to get a good fit, and then glue or tape them onto the front of your containers.
The game is simple and fun.
To play:
Play with 1-6 players. Start by chanting the Berry Poem together and between each turn.
- Child chooses a berry letter out of the container without looking. Then, they look and say the letter and its sound. They keep that letter.
- Continue playing by chanting the poem and then the next child takes a turn. If someone chooses a Surprise Berry, they get to choose another berry too (essentially they take an extra berry card). Play until all the berries have been taken out of the container. Then, put them back in and play again!
That’s it! Easy peasy, and a simple and fun game to play in the spring/summer as review or for new learning.
Any other repurposed ideas for berry containers? I would love to someday fill up my own container with farmer’s market berries, but so far our local grocery store and farmer’s markets aren’t doing that option yet. Ah well. We’ll keep getting creative for ways to reuse these household items!
Happy teaching, and thanks for stopping by my blog! Check out my TPT store for this Berry Fun resource and for lots of other early childhood activities and resources.
